Klaipeda district municipality, in cooperation with UAB Probaltic Consulting, has applied for financing to create a material base for Open Youth Centre in Gargždai, to develop youth’s social and life skills and abilities needed for labour market, and to foster inter-institutional cooperation of the centre.
Based on the study of Klaipeda District Youth Issues as of 2012 and the research of youth situation in Gargždai conducted by the coordinator on Klaipeda District youth’s issues in 2011, the following main areas of concern were revealed: youth’s physical and psychological health, use of alcohol and psychotropic drugs among young people, low youth public engagement and limited leisure time opportunities, youth employment possibilities by acquired profession, etc.
The revealed problems encouraged Klaipeda District Municipality to initiate a project with a goal to contribute to well-being of young people through developing an open work with youth in Gargždai. The Municipality, in cooperation with UAB Probaltic Consulting, has applied for financing to create a material base for Open Youth Centre in Gargždai, to develop youth’s social and life skills and abilities needed for labour market, and to foster inter-institutional cooperation of the centre.
One of the main activities under the project is the establishment of the first Open Youth Centre in Klaipeda District. Gargždai Open Youth Centre will assure a safe youth’s leisure time; arrange joint activities at young people’s initiative; improve youth’s self-esteem and communication skills; foster the ability to build the future in a constructive way; encourage an attitude to a healthy lifestyle and physical fitness, and assist on youth employment issues.
